Chapter 13

Chapter 12 – Trade Agreements.

On the 10 th day of February, we entered Wazar and finally had a trade agreement with the Sun Empire. Duke Roman should be satisfied, given we’d stayed away the two months he suggested, and we still had to tie up loose ends before heading home. Everyone was happy and cheered as we entered the city. It was a stark change from our reception in Zuth.

Wazar was a much smaller city than Zuth. Zuth was sprawling and large enough to get lost in. I could have walked the length of Wazar in an hour or two with little chance of getting lost. It felt cozier and decidedly friendlier.

Five soldiers around level three escorted us to the lord’s manor. No wonder they were doing worse than Zuth. The average level here was more in line with what I had come to expect from a rural town. The lord’s manor was the nicest building in the city, and it still wasn’t that great. Omar was waiting for us at the lord’s manors, full of smiles.

“My friends, it is good to see you,” Omar said.

“I hope they treated you well,” I replied.

“Yes, yes. Very well. Extremely well, in fact,” Omar said.

“I’m glad to hear that,” I said.

“These last few days, I have spoken with this city’s lord many times, and he is very interested in both food and Potions of Healing as trade. I indicated to him it could be several years away. He is willing to help expedite if possible. He has some workers who can start tunneling from this side of the mountain if you are interested,” Omar said.

“I might be depending on the price,” I responded.

“Isn’t that always the sticking point on such deals? That is between you and him, but I wanted to let you know he’s receptive to the idea,” Omar said.

“Thanks. Is there anything I should know before meeting the city lord?” I asked.

“No, no. Well. The city’s lord fancies himself an artist. It would be bad to… criticize the artwork in to… strong a manner. If you know what I mean,” Omar said nervously with several pauses.

“I think I understand. Anything else? Is he going to try and disarm us?” I asked.

“No, no. Wazar’s lord understands that you were treated badly in Zuth and does not wish to repeat that offense,” Omar said.

“That’s great to hear,” I said.

Inside was some of the worst artwork I’d ever seen. Nothing was symmetrical in the paintings, and many of them were difficult to tell what they were paintings of. The only way he’d be displaying this crap is if a bunch of people were lying to him regularly.

“Oh god,” Iris muttered as we passed a particularly vile insult to the painting world. Maybe he was going for one of those weird abstract gibberish paintings. If that was the case, this guy was a fucking master. I think they were called expressionism if I recall correctly.

We met Wazar’s lord in a relaxed sitting room with big pillows instead of chairs.
